Burpham Primary School – Summer 2025

October 1, 2025| News + Events, Previous Issue

Summer is always a time for adventure and discovery at Burpham Primary School. Our Infant children have trips to Painshill Park and Nower Wood planned and are very much looking forward to demonstrating their sporting prowess to their families at Sports Day.

Reception children have been finding out about superheroes in our community, Year 1 have been researching why Guildford has a castle and building their own castle and Year 2 have been working scientifically to discover what conditions help cress seeds to grown.

Our Junior classes have taken their learning out of school with various trips. Year 3 went to Butser Farm as part of their history topic ‘What Changes did the Romans Bring?’

The children took part in 4 workshops, made some very dainty copper rings, competed to build the strongest flint wall and had a go at being archaeologists.

Year 4 went to Runway’s End and spent time on the water and climbing as they developed communication and team work skills and Year 5 went to Winchester Science Museum to explore a variety of interactive exhibits.

Our Year 6 children have worked hard since they started school and they approached their SATs exams with confidence, showcasing all they have learnt. We are very proud of each and every one of them and know that they all have talents and abilities well beyond what the SATs measure. They are looking forward to their last half-term at primary school with lines for a production to learn, a leavers’ assembly to prepare, transition days to attend at secondary schools and a 3 day trip to High Ashurst to enjoy.

Our brilliant PSA (Parent Staff Association) have funded some new reading books chosen by the children for each class and are busy preparing for the school’s annual Camp Out which gives our families a chance to enjoy our beautiful grounds.

We are delighted to have so many children joining our Reception classes in September and are expecting to fill all our places. However, families’ plans do change and there is often movement between now and the start of the next academic year so, even if you have accepted a place elsewhere, it is worth joining our waiting list if you would like your child to attend Burpham Primary School.
