We represent the community of Burpham, Guildford

What we were up to in July and August

  • We started listing Burpham’s noteworthy trees for better protection.
  • We led free community walks to Jordan Hill, Compton Village and the quick back route to Clandon (and its pubs!)
  • The BCA book club met to discuss three books. We have a What’s App group for anyone interested in joining us.
  • We enjoyed a guided tour of Loseley Park house and gardens, kicking off our series of visits to historic sites.
  • We met with the Gosden Hill developers twice in the last two months to discuss their revised plans and give our opinions about the traffic and flood implications
    for Burpham.

Updating the Neighbourhood Plan

The Burpham Neighbourhood Plan is a statutory document which we wrote to guide development in Burpham and state our preferences. The plan is overseen by the Burpham Neighbourhood Forum. We are now revising the plan to include the new roads which have joined our ward since boundaries were redrawn two years ago, and to update it in the light of a revised Guildford Local Plan. Some clarifications and additions have been made – for example, to list our cherished old buildings. We will be introducing you to the proposed changes in November.

Do you enjoy…

…Gardening?

We are thinking about starting up a community garden near the park. Is this something you might enjoy? We are collecting up names for an initial meeting to establish if the
idea has legs.

…the Repair Shop on TV?

We are thinking about offering a repair session once every few weeks, to which people can bring small items for minor repairs e.g. small bicycle repairs, mending picture frames. But we need people with skills to offer to staff it. Is that you?

…applying your professional skills?

We are looking for people with expertise in building, construction, roads and traffic, drainage, utilities, environment, law and so on to scrutinise upcoming plans for Gosden Hill with an eye on the interest of local residents. Can you help?
