Ofsted visit Burpham Primary School
When Ofsted visited back in March 2017 we were given an Outstanding grading in all areas, so all at Burpham Primary were keen to demonstrate all our school offered when the Inspector called on a hot day at the end of June.

The Inspector spent two days with us, talking to pupils, staff, parents and Governors, viewing learning and playtime, visiting various lessons in all the different year groups, scrutinising books and observing children’s behaviour.
As a school, we were so proud of each and every member of our community, from the lovely parent comments in the survey, to the children who spoke confidently and passionately about their learning and the staff who worked incredibly hard to showcase everything we do. We are absolutely delighted that the Inspector’s finding was that standards in all areas had been maintained since the previous inspection and are thrilled to be able to share the full report which you can find on our website www.burpham.surrey.sch.uk
In summary, the Inspector found that children at Burpham benefit from a rich and engaging curriculum and a wide range of opportunities which support them to ‘spread their wings and fly high’. Our collective love of reading was praised as was the role of the children who act as ‘reading ambassadors’ and ‘eco rangers’. The report mentions:
- pupils behave well and demonstrate high levels of cooperation
- pupils interact well, showing kindness to each other
- pupils engage, show respect and eagerly share their learning
- teachers check progress regularly and accurately understand pupils’ needs
- the school is ambitious with high expectations and a strong, inclusive culture
- the environment is calm and respectful, routines and expectations are clear
- transition to secondary school is carefully supported

The conclusion that the school is well led and managed, and, consequently, that pupils achieve exceptionally high standards and benefit from a curriculum that helps them to develop empathy, to understand inclusion and to respect diversity which prepares them well for life beyond school is what Burpham is all about! We prioritise what is best for our pupils, regardless of inspection criteria, but could not have asked for a better endorsement of our work; staff and pupils have enjoyed a well-deserved summer break and are ready to do the same again, and more, this academic year.
