Red House Rhythm and Blues Duo

Music and Food Night with Red House Rhythm & Blues Duo and Matthew Hollingshurst

Friday 29 April 2022 7pm in ‘Seasons’ at Guildford Cathedral

Red House Rhythm & Blues Duo are back! After a Sold-Out November 2021 show, they return by popular demand. Guildford Cathedral’s Residentiary Canon Chris Hollingshurst and Guildford Diocese’s Mission Enabler Danny Wignall, will be performing at Guildford Cathedral’s Seasons Café on Friday 29 April from 7pm. Come and join them for an evening of Great Music and Fabulous Food!

Guitarist Danny met Chris during – of all things – a clergy conference in 2015, where Chris was playing piano in an entertainment revue. ‘Do you play blues?’ was the question, and the rest, as they say is history! As two friends in the same line of work enjoying playing some of their favourite music with a bluesy twist, they have shared their music and their sense of fun with audiences around Surrey. The duo will be joined by Chris’s son Matthew, who is a fabulous singer and all three are hoping to perform as a trio towards the end of the evening. If last time is anything to go by, the audience can expect to hear ‘Further on up the Road’, ‘Key to the highway’, ‘It’s got to be the blues’, ‘No money down’, ‘Have I told you lately that I love you?’, ‘So Lonely’, ‘It hurts me too’ – and much, much more.

Season’s café has put together an amazing selection of main meals and desserts for the evening. Including slow cooked BBQ ribs, chimichurri homemade beef burger topped with smoked cheddar, maple glazed bacon, jalapeño relish, and paprika mayo all in a salad bun or spicy falafel, roasted pepper, tomato salsa and sliced pickle wrap. Desserts include, homemade key lime pie and a chocolate orange indulgence pot, to name just a few delicious food choices available.

Chris commented: “We are so looking forward to returning to Season’s café after a fabulous evening last year. The atmosphere was great, some even danced! The food was delicious, and I think many were surprised that the two of us could enjoy rhythm and blues so much! We are hoping that many people will join us, so we can do it all again this year!”

The Red House Rhythm & Blues Duo can be seen on their YouTube channel and their Facebook page. Tickets for the event cost £25 including food. For more information and to book, please visit our website www.guildford-cathedral.org/events/blues-and-dinner-night

Guildford Cathedral is the last Church of England Cathedral consecrated on a new site; the only Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Spirit. The faith and determination of ordinary people raised Guildford Cathedral into being. Held in particular affection by the many thousands of people who helped build it by buying a brick, a revolutionary early example of crowdfunding. The bricks themselves were made from the clay hill on which it was built.

The concept of light is at the heart of the Cathedral and is a source of wonder. A space for reflection and tranquillity. There is much to offer to visitors and to those who are looking for a church community to call home. The beautiful building and the excellent choral tradition contribute to making Guildford Cathedral a place to which, once visited, you will want to return. As well as the rhythm of daily worship we maintain a regular inspiring programme of arts, events, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and concerts. We aim to be a welcoming place – open to God, open to all.
