Welcome – September & October 2025

September 16, 2025| Welcome, Past Issues, Our Magazine

Welcome to the September & October edition of Burpham Pages! This time we’re bringing you a bit of a bumper issue, packed with more stories, local updates, and useful adverts than usual — all designed to keep you connected with what’s happening in and around our community.

We begin with Guildford Borough Council, who highlight the Guildford Heritage Open Days 2025 — a chance to celebrate and explore the fascinating history of our town. Our local councillors also provide their regular update, sharing news of their activities and priorities for the months ahead.

There are plenty of special milestones to mark in this issue. Guildford Flower Club are celebrating an incredible 70 years, while Slimming World members in our area have raised over £17,000 for Cancer Research UK. Meanwhile, Ofsted recently visited Burpham Primary School and we share the results of their inspection, along with some tips from Ellie Dudley on how to set yourself up for a successful school year.

We also take a closer look at how Home Counties Carers are working with Hatha Helpers to make a real difference in Surrey, and the North Guildford Food Bank tell us their powerful, life-changing story of supporting those most in need.

From the Burpham Community Association, there’s the latest update on their local projects, and we also highlight the Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which could be of benefit to many households here in Burpham. Moira MacQuaide shares another fascinating slice of local history — this time the story of Burpham Mill.

To round things off, Rev James Hanson reflects on the value of “decluttering”, while the Worplesdon Garden Club provide their ever-helpful seasonal hints and tips for gardeners.

We hope you enjoy this packed edition – and we’ll be back in November & December, when, incredibly, Christmas will already be on our minds!
