July & August 2025 update from our local councillors
Local councillors George Potter and Jane Tyson write their regular update for Burpham residents:

Safer speed limits introduced in Burpham
New, safer speed limits are being introduced on multiple local roads. Speed limits have been dropped to 40mph on Park Lane, to 30mph through-out residential Burpham, and to 20mph on Burpham Lane because of the park, village hall and primary school. The speed limits changes come off the back of speed limit reviews organised by George. A consultation on the proposed new speed limits took place last year and showed strong local support for the changes.
Riverside boardwalk replacement
This is scheduled to be replaced as part of a larger project to improve the Riverside Nature Reserve. The project includes improvements to pathways, signage, and seating, and is funded by contributions from developers. A residents consultation will launch this year.
Beryl Bikes are here
Guildford’s public bike share scheme, featuring ebikes to help with our hills, has now arrived in Burpham. Bikes are now available for hire from bays on the Kingpost Parade.

Wildflowers success
The wildflowers that local resident Ross from Surrey Wildlife Trust, Sue from the BCA and Jane planted are positively blooming in front of the Thrifty/Swift Car Hire Centre.
Local Government reform
We’re keeping a close eye on proposals for local government reorganisation in Surrey and will share updates as soon as we know more.
