Welcome – September & October 2024
Dear Neighbours, welcome to the September & October issue of Burpham Pages! As we bid farewell to summer and settle into the crisp days of autumn, we’re excited to bring you a packed edition filled with news, updates, and stories from around our wonderful community.
This issue, we’re delighted to introduce a new support project from Voluntary Action South West Surrey called Volunteer Connections. This initiative is all about bringing people together to make a difference, and there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved. Our local councillors, George Potter and Jane Tyson, provide their latest updates, keeping us informed on the key issues affecting our area. From local developments to community initiatives, their insights are always valuable.
If you’re looking for a way to give back, the Phyllis Tuckwell shops are currently seeking new volunteers. It’s a fantastic opportunity to support a great cause and make new friends along the way. The Burpham Community Association shares their latest community update, keeping us connected with everything happening in our area. And as we head into flu season, Merrow Park Surgery offers essential advice on seasonal
vaccinations to keep us all healthy.
Moira’s history page takes us back in time to explore William Alchin and the Old Chapel on London Road, while Reverend James Hanson reflects on the ‘gates’ that guide us on life’s journey. Plus, we’re proud to share Mark Saunders’ inspiring story of walking the 589-mile length of Ireland in aid of two dementia charities.
We hope everyone had a wonderful summer break and wish you all the best for the start of the new school year. We look forward to catching up again in our October and December issue, where we’ll dive into Halloween and Christmas celebrations.
